Allen County Juvenile Justice Center

K2M Design partnered with Allen County and Allen County Common Pleas Court to provide a complete facility assessment and planning study to determine how the built environment can best serve the future needs of the Juvenile Justice Center for Allen County. The K2M Team started the process with an assessment of the complex located in Lima, Ohio. The team conducted an overall facility conditions assessment, which included data gathering, report on the conditions found, including a cost estimate for deferred maintenance/improvements needed, and provide alternatives to renovation and alternatives to support the possibility of a new facility to serve the County.

The assessment provided a starting point for an extensive planning and programming exercise led by Scott Maloney. The program was developed to support the future needs of the Juvenile Justice Center, while finding solutions to accomplish the program requirements including the possibilities of renovation, addition, or new construction to fulfill the growing needs of the County and surrounding areas. Space relationship diagrams were created to illustrate needs and future predictions.

The deliverable consists of solutions and alternatives for each of the three options presented in the programming exercise, which were the core requirements of the options. A complete report was provided to the County highlighting all possibilities. A detailed cost analysis was included within this report, based upon current populations and trends within the County, State and Nationwide in order to accurately predict the anticipated expenditures to accomplish the goals.
